The municipality is damaging important trees

This destruction can be seen at the Park on the corners of Hendrik Potgieter and 10th Avenue in Alberton North.

This letter serves to make people aware of the destruction done to the trees by the Parks Department.

This destruction can be seen at the park on the corners of Hendrik Potgieter and 10th Avenue in Alberton North.

WHAT A MESS: Leaves and branches all over the park.

I have the following concerns:

  • There are trees of historical value.
  • Nothing has been done regarding the black wattle trees in the spruit, which creates a safety risk because it provides hiding places for suspicious individuals.
  • Instead of trimming the trees the lower branches were cut. This can be seen by the stripping of the bark.
  • The branches were cut in a horrendous way – it damaged the trees;
  • The trees were cut ages ago and as usual the municipality just leaves everything lying there instead of taking it away as they are supposed to. Aside from looking terrible, it is a health risk as it attracts vermin.
RIGHT HERE WILL DO: A mess of tree branches lies strewn across the the park after being cut.

The community does not have a problem with the cutting of the trees, provided that is done according to horticultural standards.

Concerned residents

The RECORD contacted the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality for comment, but they failed to respond.
