Roy (82) does 100th parkrun

Roy is a devoted family man and his family love him and are very proud of his accomplishments and all his support. At 82 he is amazingly healthy, happy and fit in both body and mind and he is dedicated to parkruns.

ROY Hannah completed his 100th parkrun at Rietvlei Zoo Farm on Saturday, April 8, amid cheers from family and friends.

Roy, who lives in Meyersdal with his wife of 57 years, Zelma, was born in Durban in 1935, where he grew up among a large family. He attended Durban Technicon and qualified as an air conditioning engineer.

On January 2, 1960 Roy and Zelma were married and not long after Roy was transferred to Mondeor, Johannesburg where he opened a branch of Cape Air. In 1980 he opened his own successful air conditioning company, Retrofit Services, where he still operates very actively today.

Roy and Zelma had five beautiful children, later becoming grandparents and going on to have three great-grandsons and recently, a great-granddaughter.

Sadly, they recently lost their eldest son of 54 to cancer; he was Roy’s best friend and a partner in his business for 33 years.

Roy is a devoted family man and his family love him and are very proud of his accomplishments and all his support.

At 82 he is amazingly healthy, happy and fit in both body and mind and he is dedicated to parkruns. Whenever he goes away and is unable to do the Rietvlei parkrun, he does it in Cape Town, Langebaan, Umhlanga, Durban or Uvongo. “I never forget my barcode and running shoes,” he says.
