Alberton North roads have become obstacle courses

“It started as a pothole, but now it’s this big, dangerous hole. I’m worried that someone’s gonna drive into it.”

AROUND the end of February, Lois Trichardt Street and some surrounding roads had become a major issue for those who work and reside nearby.

On Lois Trichardt Street, what was a pothole at the beginning of February is now a metre-deep ditch with exposed piping.

A businessman who works at Khwaja Electrical Distributors says: “It started as a pothole, but now it’s this big, dangerous hole. I’m worried that someone’s gonna drive into it.

6TH AND 7TH AVENUES: It seems potholes have been fixed with cement instead of tar, causing these lumps in the road.

“It causes traffic around here, a lot – and people often reverse into oncoming traffic to get around it. That’s very dangerous.”

IMPROPERLY FIXED: Potholes filled with cement lead to these unavoidable lumps in the roads.

A few roads away, 7th Avenue’s stop street had a big lump of concrete over it. It is suspected that this concrete was used to fill in a pothole. Smaller versions of these concrete lumps exist in 6th Avenue, too.

“They obviously tried fixing potholes with concrete, which is completely the wrong way,” the businessman said.

The EMM had not responded by the time of publishing.
