The Charity of Choice for the evening was St Mary’s Children’s Home.

Says Sonja Harmse, Director of St Mary’s: “Our service includes residential care to 51 children, currently, and we are registered to accommodate 60 children, designated to us through the children’s court on account of the Child Care Act. Children are admitted to St Mary’s for various reasons, including abuse (mental, physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse) and/or neglect, being orphaned or some have been infected or affected by the HIV/Aids virus. They come to us from surrounding informal settlements and many can be seen as the poorest of the poor.”
