The EMM comments on illegal building

A new fine will be issued for consistent non-compliance by owners of said property committing misconduct.

ALLEGED illegal building came under the spotlight in the RECORD of February 15.

The RECORD requested comment from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) after a resident complained continuously about alleged illegal building taking place at a neighbour’s residence.

Themba Gadebe, EMM spokesperson commented: “The property in question was first inspected on November 18, 2016 and a carbon copy notice was issued on the same day during a routine rodent control inspection programme.

A follow up inspection, conducted on Friday, January 13, 2017 revealed non-compliance to the aforesaid notice. A second statutory notice was issued on Monday, January 16, 2017 and delivered by registered post in January 2017.

Another follow-up inspection on Monday, February 6, 2017 revealed non-compliance to this statutory notice, which resulted in a fine of R1 000 issued on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. A new fine will be issued for consistent non-compliance by owners of said property committing misconduct.”
