School assistant becomes teacher

I was driving a bakkie and now I drive chalk on a blackboard.

BRADLEY Williams, a married father of four young children, will tell you that he has always had a passion for teaching.

But life took him on a few roundabouts before this dream was realised. After being employed in various factories, he ended up as a driver and general assistant at Opelweg Primary School, where he ultimately achieved his goal of becoming a school teacher.

“My sister, who is now my colleague at the school, has been my role model and had always encouraged me to follow my dream. She and the principal Roger John are the two people who encouraged and motivated me to study – I will always be thankful to the two of them,” said Bradley.

Mr Williams mentioned that he is from a big family of 13 brothers and sisters, two of whom have passed on. His brothers and sisters have good jobs and this pushed him to study and achieve something in life.

“I am busy studying for a diploma and will also follow with a degree,” he says. “If God permits, I want to set an example for our youngsters to show them that dreams and goals can be achieved. Never give up – it’s never too late to say ‘yes, I can’. I was driving a bakkie and now I drive chalk on a blackboard.”
