Clean out your cupboards for AMCARE

The past 15 years holds a lot of good and sad memories for AMCARE.

AMCARE, a non-profit organisation situated in the New Market area, celebrates its 15th anniversary as a part of the community this year.

This organisation helps people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, victims of domestic abuse and the elderly with social work services.

Additionally, they offer long-term help in the form of skills-building courses and in catering and sewing and psychosocial support. This assistance is aimed at improving people’s overall life quality, such as helping them to deal with trauma, be independent and learn to sustain themselves.

Marihet Infantino, the new general manager of AMCARE, says that, in this way, AMCARE dreams of eventually empowering many communities to live the best life they can.

“It is our method of love and care that makes AMCARE special.

“However, despite these true efforts to do good, there will always be challenges. For this organisation, the biggest challenge is and has always been funding,” Infantino says.

AMCARE generates money by selling second-hand items to the community at very low prices at its own shop, as well as providing catering and tailoring services.

“A problem arises when there are not enough donations to keep the shop going. So many people depend on us,” adds Infantino.

“The past 15 years holds a lot of good and sad memories for AMCARE. With more help from the community, we will continue growing and changing lives in many great ways for another 15 years – at least!”

The public is encouraged to donate unwanted items which can assist AMCARE in their work and to visit the AMCARE shop at 15 Heidelberg Road, New Market.
