Police station for Zonkizizwe

In the quest to fight crime and social ills, the City of Ekurhuleni this week opened a multi-million Rand police precinct in Zonkizizwe.

IN the quest to fight crime and social ills, the City of Ekurhuleni this week opened a multi-million Rand police precinct in Zonkizizwe.

The ceremony was overseen by MMC (Member of Mayoral Committee) of Community Safety Councillor Vivian Chauke and Acting Chief of Police Major-General Jabulani Mapiyeye.

Addressing the community, Clr Chauke said the precinct represented a step closer in winning the fight against crime. She warned those who didn’t comply with the city’s by-laws to refrain from doing so.

“One of our key duties is ensuring that there is not just law and order, but we must instill confidence in our people about safety and security interventions put in place. We also want to use the precinct to stop the disconnect between communities and law enforcers,” said Clr Chauke.

Pastor Paul Sikhosana, an elder from Extension 5 in Palm Ridge, has welcomed the initiative. “This precinct will help us in many ways as we don’t have a police station in close proximity. Previously, we reported cases at the Eden Park Police Station. We are happy we will no longer be walking long distances to get help.”
