Mom and dad arrested for drug and weapon possession

The SAPS also found weapons in their possession.

A MARRIED couple was arrested at their Alberton North home during a police raid on December 1 during which drugs and weapons were seized.

The arrests were a joint effort by Alberton SAPS, the EMPD Crime Task Team, Johannesburg K9 unit and SAPS Flying Squad.

Upon entering the premises, the police found the father and his son in the front part of the house while the mother was found in the toilet, attempting to flush away packets of crystal meth (crystal methamphetamine) and cat (methcathinone).

According to Alberton SAPS communications officer Captain Manare Ramotshela, the police seized four packets of crystal meth, three packets of cat, seven packets of ecstasy tablets and 25 unknown tablets.

“The suspects’ son took us to the backyard to show us where marijuana was hidden and that was then also seized,” said Capt Ramotshela.

In addition, five ketamine fresenius medicines were seized, 21 crack pipes, eight syringes and three acid bottles.

The street value of the drugs was estimated to be R10 000.

The police also recovered weapons, seizing two AK47’s, a Hatsan Mod air rifle, a tech rifle and a Glock pistol frame. Five knives and three axes were also seized.

Following the success of these arrests, Alberton SAPS is proud to announce that they have recently deployed student constables to increase visibility in the area.

According to Capt Ramotshela, 27 more constables will be serving the community.

“This extra visibility is promising and I believe the community will be safer,” he said.

Capt Ramotshela thanked the community for realising the efforts of the police.
