Reclaim your pet

Report your missing pets.

AS a result of all the fireworks being set off during New Year’s celebrations, the Alberton SPCA’s kennels are filled with many scared and homeless pets.

Fireworks are great fun but they can also cause great distress and concern for pets. According to Kingstone Sibiza, senior inspector at the Alberton SPCA, there was no serious incidents, but they are appealing to pet owners whose animals went missing after the weekend’s fireworks displays to pay them a visit. “We have had a lot of dogs in and although we do our best to reunite them with their owners, some have not been claimed.

“These loud, bright displays that are shot into the night sky can be extremely harmful to all animals. Fireworks can cause animals emotional, psychological and physical harm. It is a pity, and complaining to those who fire them does not help. We must focus on the people who manufacture and sell them. I mean, anyone can buy fireworks even though they do not know how to use them. We need to start at the top,” he said.

“If your dog or cat is missing or if you have found a dog or cat, please report to the office on 011 907 1568 or ideally come in and check. Only you know your pet,” he said.
