TREES around Alberton have been falling at an alarming rate after the rains and thunderstorms experienced recently.
One tree that appears to have been struck by lightning fell across Delphinium Street, Brackenhurst, forcing drivers to drive over sidewalks, damaging the grass, much to the dismay of the residents.
In Theresa Street, approximately six trees fell over or were badly damaged in just one night (between Thursday and Friday, November 10 and 11), due to a combination of rains, heavy winds and lightning.
“You can see the root structure of the trees is poor,” says Manfred Maraun, a resident in the street.
It is advised that everyone be very vigilant and cautious at all times, not only because of the danger on the roads due to the rain, but also because of the falling trees and subsequent obstructions caused by this.
