THREE of Bracken High’s rugby stars are doing impressive things on the rugby field.

John Mbayo, Katlego Mbewe and Bophelo Mohlala were selected to represent the Golden Lions at provincial level this year and all played three matches for The Golden Lions in the u.15 Iqhawe week provincial tournament.

Katlego Mbewe played at outside centre where he powered his way through to score three great tries in three games.

Bophelo Mohlala played at open side flank and he tackled like a man possessed, proving to be a natural ball thief.

John Mbayo played at wing, where he proved to be a worthy impact player. The Lions team beat Griffons 29-12 and Border Bulldogs 15-10. They narrowly lost to Western Province 11-15, before exiting the tournament.

Katlego and Bophelo started playing rugby in primary school, however John only began his rugby last year. Under the close guidance of their high school rugby coach Mr Graham Dinkelman, the lads have managed to hone their skills, making them a formidable opponent.

These three great players assisted the Bracken High u.15 rugby team in winning 10 games through the course of the season, coming up short against Hoërskool Goudrif in the Golden Lions semi finals.

All three of the boys have emphasised their desire to firstly become senior Golden Lions players and after which, go on to represent South Africa at the highest level, like their heroes Bjorn Basson and Brian Habana.

These are three players to keep an eye on for the future.
