WORLD SIGHT AWARENES (WSA) which was on Thursday, October 13 is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.
Optimed (Pty) Ltd in Alberante hosted a charity month from 05 October up until the 26 October, on specific days for the less privileged patients in need of cataract extraction and lens implant surgery.
According to Lindie Swart, who co-ordinated the project for Optimed, this is their way of giving back to the community. The surgery was free of charge at absolutely no cost to the patients.
All six of their ophthalmologists, Doctors Joseph Krouse, Wayne Osler, Tony Dos Ramos, Caroline Gooding, Ed H-Jervis and Phillip Kraukamp were involved and each doctor had their own list of WSA patients they operated on and with the help of their sponsors they were able to provide lens implants for all the cataract procedures performed.
Optimed has reached its goal to help more than 60 patients.”We are so thankful and proud of the six ophthalmologists and their teams,” said Lindie.
Optimed thanked the Optimed staff as well as Ophtec, I-Medical, Allergan, Genop, Alcon, and Nitran for their sponsorships. “We are looking forward to our next WSA week next year.”
