New look for Pick n Pay New Market at Lemon Tree

Newly renovated and bigger store for customers.

SHOPPERS were excited for the relaunch of the newly renovated Pick n Pay Newmarket Family Store in Lemon Tree shopping centre.

Tuesday, September 27 marked the grand opening of the revamped and enlarged store. The opening was attended by Pick n Pay head office management, centre owners, the Jansen family, the franchisee, Dutchie Luscos and staff, as well as invited guests such as members of the Heritage Society of Alberton. Pick and Pay has 250 staff, including management.

Dutchie is a well-known business owner in Alberton, who started in retail back in the 1960s. Twelve years ago, he opened the Pick n Pay Newmarket store at Lemon Tree, with less floor space than he originally wanted. But his dream stayed alive and grew bigger over the years. Despite the tough economic times, Pick n Pay gave him the go-ahead to expand the store to its current size, including a new bakery, butchery, biltong bar, deli and coffee counter.

The wall space in front of the long line of pay points which takes you to the exit features a collage commemorating Alberton’s first 110 years. It is a feather in the cap of Pick n Pay New Market at Lemon Tree to put special emphasis on Alberton’s history in Heritage Month. The Heritage Society of Alberton indicated that they felt privileged to be involved in the historical research and the provision of images that feature in the collage.

Dutchie thanked the Jansen family, Pick n Pay staff and his wife for their loyal support. Guests were treated to refreshments at the coffee shop in the centre.

The store opened to the public at 08:00. According to Noxy Ramutloa, one of the shoppers, she is so excited to do her monthly shopping at the new Pick n Pay. “The management has been good to us and we are so excited and proud of this revamped store.”

Shoppers can expect a bigger range of products. It took the management 18 months to renovate the franchise and was definitely worth the wait.
