Sunflower Day at Castillian

This was all for cancer awarness.

With colourful bandanas and their artwork up for sale, these little ones did their bit to raise awareness for childhood cancer.

On Friday, September 16, Junior Colleges Castillian highlighted the importance of childhood cancer by wearing their Junior Colleges school uniform and a Sunflower Tope (bandana).

The little ones hosted a Sunflower Day at school. Activities included painting, collage and various other artworks of sunflowers. The children’s art pieces were put up in the passages in the school to be observed by parents and guests. Parents made a cash donation for their child’s art piece. All funds raised will be donated to CHOC.

“A blessed thank you to all our Castillian parents for opening up their hearts for such a worthy cause,” said principal of Junior Colleges Castillian, Elizabeth Steenkamp.

Cansa is highlighting the importance of childhood cancer awareness this September. It’s estimated that at least half of all children with cancer in South Africa are never diagnosed. Cancer is relatively rare in children, amounting to approximately two per cent of cancers worldwide; however, it’s important to know the warning signs of cancer in children.
