Not happy about closure of parking lot

We will see what we can do to solve the problem, but for now, this is the situation we have.

SOG Security has closed off the parking to postal boxes, where the Squeeze-in Spar used to be.

This morning I drove around trying front and back entrances, but both are closed off. After phoning SOG, I was told that there is a security guard on duty. I went to the front entrance again and the security guard told me to get out of my car and climb over or go through under the chain. What if I am a pensioner or have a disability? He told me that he does not have a key to unlock the chain.

There is no place to park your car close by. I had to leave my car on a spot blocking other oncoming traffic, and with a good chance of getting hit by a vehicle. I can understand why the parking area is closed off, but this is creating a huge problem for postal box users who have paid for a service. And all the rubbish lying in and around the parking area, especially at the postal boxes, is really disgusting!

Can the owner(s) be contacted to solve this problem?

SOG replies:

Du Toit Lamprecht from SOG Security had this to say: “The owner asked us to close the entrance off because of the abuse and complaints from residents. It is unfortunate that some people feel frustrated, but it is a few metres to walk. Surely the benefits outweigh the little bit of inconvenience some people feel? We tried opening it for a short while previously, to accommodate the people who want to get in to get their post, but within minutes, cars came in to be stored and be repaired. We will see what we can do to solve the problem, but for now this is the situation we have.”

The RECORD has received many complaints regarding the parking lot in question being used to repair and store cars, damaging the paving, leaving oil leaks, etc and is following up with the local councillors.
