Rex steals the hearts of his new foster family

A Doberman rescue dog, was run over by a car in the Pretoria area.

TWO weeks ago Rex, a Doberman rescue dog, was run over by a car in the Pretoria area.

He was so badly injured that his lungs had filled with fluid from the impact, he broke his left hip and his right hind leg was almost completely shattered.

Rex suffered various injuries all over his body, and most of the fur and skin was completely gone from his back legs.

His owners requested that he be put to sleep, as they saw no hope for him, could not afford the bills, and he was in agony.

The vet did not, however, have the heart to do this and contacted Dr Michelle Miller, the vet and owner of Paws in Motion, in Alberton North, as she is a Doberman lover.

She fetched this broken dog, took him to her practice and saved his life by draining his lungs and stabilising him for a week, before he was fit for surgery.

Rex is going to need months of rehabilitation, to learn to walk properly again, although he is already hopping around on his healing hip.

“We now have Rex at home with us, in addition to our other three rescue Dobermans, and he is the happiest dog alive with his two sisters and brother. We have offered to adopt him, as he has stolen our hearts.” said Lynn Holmes, Rex’s foster mum.

If anyone in the community is willing to make a donation, to assist this brave boy, please contact the Yvette, at the Alberton RECORD (011 734 7000 or yvetteb@caxton.co.za, or Paws in Motion Veterinary Clinic on 011 907 0614).

They will give you bank details where you can send an eft with your name and reference “Rescue Rex”. All donations will be acknowledged and accounted for, and any extra money will be donated to the “stray fund” that Dr Michelle Miller administers, as she does a huge amount of charity work for various rescue organisations throughout Gauteng.

To follow Rex’s progress you can see the Doberman Rescue SA Facebook page, where we will post updates.
