One century of life celebrated

Alberton resident, “Jo” Daley, turned the big 100 recently.

ALBERTON resident, “Jo” Daley, turned the big 100.

On Friday, August 12, Catherine Josephine Daley, celebrated her 100th birthday.

This lovely lady was born in Trompsburg, Free State, in 1916, but has been living in Alberton since 1958.

When asked about the secret to her longevity, Mrs Daley just smiles and says, “Healthy living and keeping active. I don’t drink or smoke, I used to walk everywhere I had to go, and I worked right up until I was 81 years old.”

Mrs Daley was a housewife in addition working as a receptionist.

Her husband passed away in 1998, but she has a large family on hand to be there for her, namely two children (Lesly and Sandra), eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

On Saturday, August 13, around 60 people will be coming to the house to celebrate the joyous occasion, four generations of family to make it a special day.

After the interview, the RECORD told Mrs. Daley we wish her many more, to which she quickly made a gesture as if to say “I hope not!” showing her wit and sense of humour is still in good form, although her hearing may be found to be a tad wanting.

She is still bright and alert, enjoying watching some television while relaxing and taking afternoon naps to recharge her battery.
