THE Drakensberg Boys’ Choir came to Alberton recently to recruit new talent.

On Thursday, July 28, the world renowned Drakensberg Boys’ Choir, also fondly known as Drakies, visited Bracken Primary, Alberview Primary, and Laerskool Randhart, to look for potential talent.

The dual-medium school (English and Afrikaans) consists of around 120 boys from all across the country, from nine to 15 years in age.

Although the school does function as a normal school in terms of academics and sports, its music programme is its pride and joy. The school is situated in the beautiful setting of the Drakensberg and once a year the boys enjoy a fun-filled three-day hike in the surrounding areas.

The Drakies have travelled to 48 countries and performed for millions of people around the world, even sharing stages with musical royalty and various icons.

“The boys experience living life to the fullest. They are exposed to nature and participate in hikes, tubing and spending time together around a campfire. The friendships that are formed at DBCS (Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School) is to become part of a brotherhood of friends that last a lifetime,” says marketing manager for the school, Belinda Espag.

Parents are encouraged to apply in writing on the prescribed application forms for admission for their son(s) before the end of the preceding year. However, entrance may be granted at any time of the academic year. Learners will be subjected to a voice audition and a school report needs to be assessed by the head of academics.

On the weekend of September 16 and 17, boys who are interested in attending the DBCS can attend an open weekend and experience the Drakie life.

If you are interested, please email Belinda Espag at bespag@dbchoir.com to arrange for an audition or to attend the open weekend.
