Youth grab opportunity for a free course
This initiative was formed to help and assist the youth of Africa, including South Africa.
EAGER youth are flocking to the local library in Eden Park to learn and be informed about the Youth African Leaders Initiative (YALI) which is presented by Ricardo Olivier.
According to information given by Olivier, YALI was founded by the president of the USA, Barack Obama, under the control of the USA government in partnership with the US Agency for Internal Development (USAID) as the funding body.
Olivier explained that this initiative was formed to help and assist the youth of Africa, including South Africa, with online programmes and courses free of charge.
“As a member of the South African Leadership Programme, I asked Macon Phillips, coordinator of the Bureau of International Information Programme USA, if I could start my own event to inform the youth in my area about YALI,” he said.
He further explained that under YALI there is also a Mandela Fellowship which is held annually in the USA by president Obama for youth of African countries who can apply for the free programmes.
“We still have to set-up an American library right here in Eden Park to provide free unlimited Wi-Fi and present personal assistance to help educate the youth,” Olivier said.
Olivier will be at the library on a daily basis and anyone with queries can visit him there.
