TWO Alberton councillors were bestowed the honour of aldermanship by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council.

Ekurhuleni Metro conferred City Honours of Aldermanship at the last council meeting of this term on Thursday, July 21, on serving councillors who made an exceptional contribution in service to the people of Ekurhuleni.

Among the group of councillors, two Alberton councillors were honored with aldermanship, namely councillors Izak Berg and Neil Diamond. Izak Berg was honoured for his 15 years of service to residents of Ekurhuleni as a councillor, and the last 10 years in council Berg was a party leader as the national chairman of IRASA.

Neil Diamond has also served 15 years as councillor and held the position of chairman of finance in the past term of office.

Both Berg and Diamond will in future be known as Alderman Berg and Alderman Diamond. This is the first time since 2000 that the Ekurhuleni Metro has conferred the title of alderman to deserving councillors. Alderman Berg and Alderman Diamond will retain these titles for life, even after they leave public office.

The RECORD was informed that Councillors Estelle Visser and Bruna Haipel were also bestowed this honour. The RECORD will follow up with these councillors as soon as possible.
