Drakensberg Boys Choir pays Alberton a visit

Three Alberton primary schools will receive a visit from the Drakensberg Boys Choir next week

EVER thought how it would be like to be part of the Drakensberg Boys Choir?

For the learners from Brackenhurst and Albertview primary schools as well as Laerskool Randhart, they will get to know more about the choir and their experiences when the choir visits the schools on Thursday, July 28.

These visits form part of the Drakensberg Boys Choirs’ road show.

Marketing manger for the choir, Belinda Espag shed some light on the choir. “Aiming to prepare boys for life and leadership through excellence in music, academics, sport and social enrichment, the Drakensberg Boys Choir School (DBCS) is a unique and world-renowned South African institution. The school stimulates boys’ spirit of adventure in the beautiful physical surroundings of the Drakensberg, while nurturing the development of their minds and expression of their innate musical talent.

“A strong academic programme is taught alongside music subjects and choir rehearsals, as well as social development abilities. The discipline of choral training ensures that boys learn highly specialised skills from every musical era and genre. Boys develop exceptional leadership skills, discipline and self-confidence.”

DBCS accepts boys from Grade 3 to Grade 7. Many boys are offered bursaries for their Grade 10, 11 and 12 years as they are mature, intelligent and have the best music knowledge and results in the country.

“The boys travel extensively. At least twice a year nationally and once a year internationally. Ten academic teachers and eight music teachers plus boarding, administrative and catering staff look after a 120 boys. This ensures individual attention in all areas.

“These boys definitely experience living life to the fullest. They are exposed to nature and participate in hikes, tubing and spending time together around a campfire.”

If you would like more information, email Belinda Espag at bespag@dbchoir.com to arrange for an audition or to attend the open weekend of September 16 and 17. Boys who are interested in attending the DBCS can attend the open weekend and experience the Drakie life.
