TWO protesters have been arrested and according to local authorities the R59 is open after it was closed by protesters earlier this morning.
The R59 between Johannesburg and the Vaal was barricaded with stones and burning tyres just after blockhouse.
It was closed both ways due to protesters from a nearby squatter camp.
According to police the community are still throwing stones at the police, but they are monitoring the area.
Traffic was backed up for several hours.
Rob Byrne tweeted this earlier:
#R59Protest Police: The situation is under control. We are monitoring the area.
