Renters complain about state of flats

RENTERS at a block of flats in South Crest complain about the terrible state of the flats and no electricity, in spite of them having paid.

According to some of the renters, the owner of the flats in question is not maintaining them and has cut the power supply to the flats.

“It’s a nightmare, because most of us have children and to go to sleep cold and have to get up in the dark, is no joke” says one of the residents.

A representative for the owner replied to the RECORD’s questions regarding this and commented by saying, “Most of the tenants are far behind on the rent, that is why we had no choice but to put the power off.”

One of the tenants responded to this by saying that they installed prepaid meters recently, and that they personally have paid rent and added, “Now we have refused to pay rent because all of us have lost so much money with all the meat and food wasted that we had to throw away because of it being rotten”.

The representatives have yet to respond to questions as to why they have shut off everyone’s electricity if some have paid and they have prepaid meters, but the RECORD did speak to a source (wishing to remain anonymous) close to the debacle, who said, “The problem is that the owners got massive bills every month for water and electricity, so they brought down the price of rent, but didn’t include the water and electricity. That didn’t help because tenants started to connect the power illegally, so they eventually had to shut it all off so they can try to get some money from the massive losses they’ve already suffered”.

The RECORD will follow the story and keep our readers updated as to any new developments.
