Boy takes prestigious cricket prize

A young Alberton resident has bagged himself the Gauteng Cricket Board u.14 Player of the year award.

A YOUNG Alberton resident has bagged himself the Gauteng Cricket Board u.14 Player of the Year award.

This means that within his age group he is rated as the best cricketer at both club and school levels.

The talented young man, Heinrigh Pieterse, was schooled locally at Laerskool President Steyn where he was first team captain in Grades Six and Seven.

He scored in excess of 2 300 runs during the 2015 season, an astonishing achievement, and all in only 30 matches that he played; this included one double hundred and four scores of above 150 as well as five more centuries.

Heinrigh was also selected for East Rand Schools for the inter-provincial tournament where he captained the side and the managed to win all their games, and was again selected for and captained the Gauteng team that took part in the national tournament.

He played for the Alberton Cricket Club at SU1 and SU2 levels where he has been opening the batting, and is currently captain of the King Edward XII school’s u.14 side, who are currently ranked second in the country for the age group.

He is currently looking forward to playing in the Lenasia Premier League which takes place later in the year.

Heinrigh has committed to playing cricket for the Alberton Cricket Club again this year.

Stef Duvenage, club Chairman said: “We are happy to have his immense talent at the clubs’ disposal again, but also feel that he will also benefit as we will make every effort to nurture and guide him. He is a special talent.”
