Burglars make a computer clean-out at school

They even stole the tinned food meant for the school's feeding scheme

BURGLARS have targeted Stoneridge Primary School twice in five weeks.

The first burglary took place on April 19, when three burglars jumped over the fence and could be seen on CCTV footage as they tried to break down classroom doors. The CPF night patroller saw them, chased after them and caught one.

Five weeks later eight burglars broke into the school administration block and stole computers and tinned food earmarked for the school’s feeding scheme.

The disappointed principal, Richard Carelse, said: “I am really perturbed by this horrible deed by some stupid beings who destroy community property and steal what is meant for their children.”

The two night patrollers were assaulted and locked in a classroom, while the burglars cut off the alarm system and the CCTV cameras, which were dumped in a dustbin.

“They stole all the office computers and monitors and escaped through an opening they made in the palisade fence at the back of the school,” added Carelse.

”They even took tinned food which was for our feeding scheme. I wish I knew why they target schools. We have lost a lot of data and much needed information which was stored on the computers.”A case was opened at the Eden Park SAPS who are investigating.
