TEENAGE girls without the means to afford sanitary wear often skip school for at least a week every month.
South African Breweries (SAB), in association with Happy Days, have sponsored sanitary pads for female learners from Thoko Thaba High School, in Thokoza.
On Wednesday, May 11, SAB gave the learners four packs of sanitary pads each, bringing the total number of packs to 2 800.
“Every year we look at underprivileged schools in our community and what their needs are, and this time we saw that this is one of the problems they face,” said Comfort Mdluli, depot manager for SAB.
The event took place during the school’s second break and involved a few speakers warning the learners about teenage pregnancy and how the sanitary wear will improve their lives.
“People often have a bad image of us because we produce alcohol, but the truth is that we are a conscientious company who cares about our community, so this is one of the ways that we are giving back to the community,” said Fezeka Mamabolo, corporate affairs specialist at SAB.
