An official white unmarked VW Golf issued to a Customer Relations Management EMM employee based in Alberton, was confiscated by the EMPD Community Liaison Unit members on Thursday, April 7

AN official white unmarked VW Golf issued to a Customer Relations Management EMM employee based in Alberton, was confiscated by the EMPD Community Liaison Unit members on Thursday, April 7.

The person found driving the vehicle claimed that he was a friend of the employee. The employee was picked up, and together with his friend were taken to Germiston police station for questioning.

Following the information received about the employee’s abuse of the Council vehicle, metro police monitored the vehicle for a period of a week. Armed with the evidence to prove the misuse of the vehicle, the metro police closed in on the vehicle at the intersection of Osborn and Van Dyk roads in Wadeville.

The driver, who was not supposed to be behind the wheel of the Council vehicle, claimed that the employee was his friend who had asked him to drive to a garage to check on the tyre pressure of the VW Golf.

Further investigations also proved that the tracker system fitted in the vehicle had been interfered with and was not functioning the way it should.

The matter was registered at the Germiston police station. A disciplinary process is expected to be initiated against the employee.
