Concerns over trenches

Affected roads will be monitored and workers will be sent out to check the state of the roads

RESIDENTS of Louw Street, Jan Meyer Street and Split Street in the South Crest area have raised concerns about the trenches that were dug by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to repair cables.

According to the training and construction supervisor of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, Simon Tekane, the roads were dug up this year to upgrade the network. “South Crest was not the only area to be affected by this. Areas such as Thokoza and Eden Park have also been affected and the affected areas will be inspected and thereafter the relevant measures will be taken to ensure it is fixed,” said Tekane.

Residents, who wished to remain anonymous, told the RECORD that the roads were dug up last year and the deep trenches were left behind. “Driveways were left in such a bad state and we even filled the trench on our driveway because we could not keep damaging our cars by driving over it every day,” said a resident.

Residents of South Crest, Thokoza and Eden Park can rest easy as the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality confirmed that the affected roads will be monitored and workers will be sent out to check the state of the roads.
