Golf Day for Ayden

Ayden is a seven-year-old boy from Vanderbijlpark who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (T-Cell).

PEOPLE are invited to be a part of the golf day on April 14, at the Reading Country Club, for Ayden van der Merwe.

Ayden is a seven-year-old boy from Vanderbijlpark who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (T-Cell). His parents, Albert and Michelle, found this out on January 22. According to them, he was very sick last year November and that was when he was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also known as human herpesvirus 4. This virus is a member of the herpes virus family. It is one of the most common human viruses.

Ayden had to undergo a biopsy and this is how the family discovered he had cancer.

While receiving chemotherapy, the treatment affected his pancreas and caused him to become diabetic. Although the doctors now have this under control, his body did not respond well to the last treatment and his kidneys were hurt in the process. He is now back in the Netcare Unitas Hospital receiving treatment. This little fighter has been in and out of hospital ever since he was diagnosed and the medical bills are running high.

Michelle told the RECORD that they are motivated by just believing and trusting in God.

According to Bianca Smith, a friend of the family, they are holding this golf day to help the van der Merwe’s with the medical bills, so they do not have any extra stress to handle. “Ayden is a fighter and we have faith that God will be there every step of the way, holding him and his family close,” she said.

He loves to play video games such as Nintendo and Xbox. Some of his hobbies are fishing and hunting.

Afrikaans singer, Bok van Blerk, also visited Ayden recently and brought him some DVDs and CDs.
