The EMM comment on blocked drain in Corvair Street

A drain in Corvair Street, Eden Park, that was reportedly damaged by a loader and had been spilling raw sewage, has been fixed according to the EMM.

A DRAIN in Corvair Street, Eden Park, that was reportedly damaged by a front loader and had been spilling raw sewage, has been fixed according to the metro.

The RECORD previously reported that a resident, who wished to remain anonymous, alleged that he witnessed what happened to the drain and that the drain has been flowing down Alfa and Abraham streets.

“The assistant, who is supposed to direct the driver in the loader, was sitting with the driver in the loader and not directing him as to where drains and cables are situated,” he said.

“While the driver was piling up the rubbish, the top of the drain was shifted. I think some of the rubbish fell into the drain and possibly caused the blockage,” he added.

“The blockage at 35 Corvair Street was reported on February 17 and was opened on the same day. On February 22, our team went there and found that it was blocked again. The manhole had been damaged and was full of rocks, and after struggling internally to open it, we had to employ the services of contractors to remove the rocks inside the manholes and reopen the sewer. The sewer blockage was opened on February 29,” said Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
