Don’t pay for work not done

Be aware and do not pay anyone before the job is not done

I just want to warn people about a certain handyman after an incident that happened to me.

Family members referred us to this man. So before he began to work at my house I asked him to provide me with all of the slips and tax invoices of everything that he had bought. He agreed and I signed the quote.

The quote was R17 000 and I paid via EFT. After he had finished the labour he asked me to pay him the amount for his labour done. I then asked him for all of the slips and he said that his worker threw it all away. His worker also came by my house to tell me that he did not get paid. I then asked the worker out about the slips whereby he replied that all of the slips were at the man’s flat.

We phoned multiple times to ask him for the slips, but he did not answer. So I recently went to attorneys and they are busy with the matter. I just want to warn people against this guy. I lost more than R6 000 and he overcharged us with all of the material and tools. After he had done the work he left with all of the equipment that he bought with my money. He just left a tin of paint which is under half full.

When I told him that I am not going to pay him for his labour if I do not have the slips he began to stalk us. So I payed this man over R30 000. Be aware of this guy and do not pay anyone before the job is done, and be careful not to pay money before the work is done.
