Resident waiting over three months for meter

Resident disappointed with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality for its lack of service delivery.

“I am very disappointed with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) for its lack of service delivery when it comes to customer service. I paid for a new electric meter three months ago and I am still waiting for the EMM to install it,” said the perturbed owner of 24 Hillman Street, Avril Molelekwa. The owner alleged that she had phoned the EMM offices and spoken to different people since January. Every person promised that the office would look into the matter and that a contractor would be dispatched. But nobody ever arrived until now.

“On 19 January I spoke to Siphokazi, who promised to speed up the query and to phone back. She never called back. On 25 January I spoke to Portia Molele at the office who said a contractor would call me. Nobody called.

“On 3 February I asked a community leader, M. Lottering, who spoke to Shirley, who promised that a contractor would call to confirm, but he never called. On 18 February I spoke to Mildred, who also promised the same thing. On the same day Phumlani, the contractor, called to confirm that he would install the meter on Saturday, 20 February, but he never arrived,” she said.

Disappointed in the EMM, Avril consulted the RECORD for help and advice as to what to do in a case such as this. The RECORD paid a visit to the EMM rates offices in Eden Park for information regarding the delay of the meter’s installation.

The RECORD spoke to Tebogo Seemela regarding Avril’s problem with the installation of her new electric meter for which she had already paid in January. Tebogo confirmed that he was aware of the matter and that he would follow up to finalise the matter. He promised that he would consult the relevant people.
