Egoli East honours blood donors
There elderly residents who have been donating blood since they were teenagers.
THE South African National Blood Service (SANBS) Egoli East branch awarded blood donors for their efforts on Saturday, February 20, at Gold Reef City.
Over 250 blood donors became emotional when they were shown photos of a baby girl who was born two months premature and was the size of an adult’s hand. Now 10 years old, thanks to the many blood units that were donated to her, she has developed normally and could be seen playing with other children at the venue.
This financial year the Egoli East team plans to work on retaining its donors and educating them about the importance of donating blood regularly and booking more regular blood drives.
Kamantha Pillay, the public relations officer, thanked all the donors for their blood donations as they continually save lives. People are encouraged to donate blood regularly – at least every 56 days. To find out where you can donate blood, call 0800 11 9031.
