CPF and community help Desjuané

"We don't do this for the money, we don't earn salaries. We do it because we are concerned citisens who want to make our community safer and just simply better to live in. And in cases like this, we have the opportunity to help someone in need by getting everyone involved to help"

ON Saturday, 20 February the Brackenhurst CPF (from sectors one and three) donated R20 000 to Desjuané Farmer, the little girl who was recently mauled by a dog and left badly injured.

The CPF fundraiser was born from an idea from Luciano Dias and his wife, Alta. “My wife started making soft toy owls and she started giving them to family and saw an opportunity to do something for Desjuané. And the Owl Foundation was born. She made 23 of these owls, and the 24th was made for Desjuané out of the remaining materials,” said Luciano.

The CPF got involved and created a bit of a competition by saying that it would donate R100 for every R100 the community gave.

“We don’t do this for the money. We do it because we are concerned residents who want to make our community safer and just simply better to live in. And in cases like these, we have the opportunity to help someone in need by getting everyone involved to help,” said Geoff Steyn, chairman of Brackenhurst CPF.

The Farmer family is very grateful to everyone who helped the family with not only their financial support, but also the moral support.

“Everyone has been so wonderful. This experience has restored my faith in mankind, and I would like to tell everyone that they have touched our lives in a way that we could never accurately express,” said Hilda Sage, mother of Desjuané Farmer.

“We would like to thank Bracken City Absa, as well as Alberton Absa branches for donating the big cheque”, said Charmaine from Brackenhurst CPF.
