Sir John Adamson High proud of history teacher

Mr Mauritz van der Heevev topping the district with distinctions by learners.

SIR John Adamson High School history teacher Mauritz van der Heevev continues his excellence in the discipline, this time producing pupils who scored 13 distinctions in the subject and becoming the top history teacher in the district.

In 2014, Van der Heevev taught pupils who produced 10 distinctions in history, a subject which he said most people need to know, that it is also important and can grow if people are passionate about it.

“All credit goes to the learners who worked very hard all year round. I am very passionate about teaching history and that is what keeps me going . But I want to get the learners even better so the history subject can grow,” said Van der Heevev.

The average pass percentage for the the subject in the school is an impressive 70%, which makes principal Michael Meyers very proud. “On behalf of the school, I would like to say well done to the entire history department and teacher Mauritz van der Heevev for doing such great work. The learners adore him. People think history is dead but he makes it come alive. Well done,” said principal Meyers.
