Rescue palm trees

Trees being planted on the mainline, is causing sewage problems in Alberante.

TWO palm trees in Alberante needs to be rescued or replanted as soon as possible. The reason the trees have to be removed is that they are planted on the sewer mainline.

Residents living in De Wet Street and Louw Wepener Street have been complaining about the blocked sewer for months. A resident, Dini Jansen, said that they removed palm trees now standing at the Lemon Tree from Penzance Street. “Our own people opened the roots and our front-end loader made the new holes. We then hired a huge truck fitted with a crane to lift it, transport it and offloaded it into the new holes.” Dini said that this time they do not have anywhere to plant one, but that some big company may want it.

According to Bruna Haipel from the DA Ward 37, trees of this size are very valuable and sought after. “It would be a pity to chop them down.”

People who are willing to replant them can contact Bruna on 082 454 6956.
