Participate in school’s code of conduct

At the AGM, parents are given the opportunity to amend or raise concerns about the code of conduct and the way the school is run.

THERE are consequences if one does not follow the rules, especially the code of conduct at schools.

Normally schools have their annual general meeting (AGM) towards the end of the year. Among other things, the purpose is to bring together the teachers, principal, school governing bodies (SGB) and the parents to pave the way for the following year.

At the AGM, parents are given the opportunity to amend or raise concerns about the code of conduct and the way the school is run.

An incident at one of the primary schools in the South left learners in distress and parents and teachers arguing about right and wrong. The incident also flared into a parent alleging that his daughter was slapped by a teacher, resulting in a criminal case being opened against the teacher.

Speaking to the principal at the school, it was indicated that they tried to resolve the matter internally with an investigation, but the parent went ahead and open a criminal case because the parent felt that the school had a personal vendetta against the learner.

All this can be avoided if parents work together with the teachers and the SGB and follow the code of conduct as set out by each and every school with its own individual codes.
