Collect lawn cuttings to help farmers

Hope Grass Project collects lawn cuttings from homes and companies to assist farmers with their livestock during the drought.

HOPE Grass Project is a campaign which is aimed at collecting lawn cuttings from homes and companies across the country, by setting up collection points in various urban areas, with the hope of helping farmers keep their livestock alive.

If you wish to provide your lawn cuttings, there are several things you need to do to ensure the grass is suitable for feeding to the animals:

*Place the grass in a plastic bag and immediately take the bags to your nearest drop-off point.

*There, lawn cuttings will be dried and stored before being transported to various areas across the country.

*If you’re unable to take the grass to the drop-off point immediately, you need to dry the grass yourself before placing it in bags. Spread out the lawn cuttings in a thin layer and allow to dry for two to three days.

The closest collection point to Alberton is 117 Meerkat Street, Zesfontein. Please contact the Hope Grass Project on 084 629 9674, for further information regarding the drying process.

Alternatively you can contact Colleen Bathgate, the secretary of Penvale Neighbourhood Watch, if you are interested in creating a collection point in the Alberton area on 082 899 1315 or 016 365 6423.
