ANDREW Perkins from Centurion took top honours at the first quarter-finals of the Dis-Chem Brain of 702, at the Mall of the South (MOTS) on Saturday, February 6. He won with an outstanding score of 19/19 and walked away with R5 000.
The mall activation proved exciting for spectators, players and even the judges. It was a fun-filled event and spectators and contestants had the opportunity to meet their favourite 702 presenters.
702’s traffic presenter, Aki Anastasiou, was the emcee of the day and oversaw two rounds with five shoppers who were brave enough to go head-to-head with each other in a bid to be dubbed the Brain of the Mall.
Then it was onto the serious business, and Andrew, along with the other weekday finalists, were given 90 seconds to answer a train of questions from quizmaster Bruce Whitfield of 702’s the Money Show.
The annual competition gives those with a brilliant bank of general knowledge a chance to cash in and show off, both on-air and in front of a live audience at the weekly mall activations.
The semi-finals will determine the Dis-Chem Brain of 702 and that person will receive R15 000 and thereafter face the Dis-Chem Brain of CapeTalk in a head to head battle on the stations’ breakfast shows on Monday, February 29. The winner of this on air contest will be named the Brain of Brains.
Followers of the Dis-Chem Brain of 702 are encouraged to get to the mall activations to experience the nerve-wracking excitement of the live quiz shows ably hosted and judged by 702 presenters, and possibly walk away with the spoils.
The dates and venues for the Joburg activations are as follows: Saturday, February 20 – Jabulani Mall, 10:00 and the on-air quarter final from 11:00; Saturday, February 27 – Brooklyn Mall, starting from 10:00 and the on-air quarter final from 11:00.
