Lover murdered and left naked

The woman could at first not tell how the man was murdered and then later reported that he was shot

A 52-year-old man was brutally murdered and his 32-year-old girlfriend reportedly raped when they were attacked in his vehicle near the Eden Park railway bridge, opposite Phola Park.

Police suspect that the couple was already naked when their attackers broke the window of the vehicle. They could not take a clear statement from the woman, who in her traumatised and confused state, gave different versions of the attack.

Inspector Seroke, from Eden Park SAPS, said the woman never went to the police station on the night of the attack to report the rape and the murder. “She said the incident occurred at about 22:30 on Friday, January 29, but only came to the police on Saturday morning, January 30,” he said.

“The woman could at first not tell how the man was murdered and then later reported that he was shot. But when inspecting the wound on the body at the crime scene, no bullet wounds could be found anywhere on his body. The only wounds where gashing wounds to his head. the woman gave very conflicting statements,” he said.

It is also reported that this couple has been warned by the Community Police Forum (CPF) patrolling the area, on several occasions, that they should not meet at that spot as it is a hotspot for muggings and hijackings.

“Instead, the couple moved from the hotspot, closer to the bridge and this is how it ended for them. In a brutal murder, a cruel rape and the vehicle was also taken,” Seroke continued.

No arrests have been made and a case of murder and rape is being investigated by Eden Park SAPS.
