Church on a clean-up mission

Eden Park residents should take pride in their areas and stop dumping.

CHURCH leaders of the Apostolic Faith Mission and the congregation all agreed that something must be done about the filth in Eden Park and so, “Operation Cleanup” was born.

“Going around Eden Park, we noticed the many disgraceful dumping sites and decided that something must be done by somebody. We approached the congregation for help and every member was ready to join our operation. We consulted with Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality (EMM) and they agreed to form a partnership with us by supplying a truck to load the rubbish bags, plastic bags and latex gloves,” said brother Kenny Whitecomb.

Saturday, January 20, was the first day of the operation and the first area to clean was Paddavlei. “We have divided Eden Park into sections and every Saturday we will do one section,” said Whitecomb.

The operation was successful and the church was grateful for some residents who, out of free will, joined in helping to clean their area.

Most of the rubbish dumping is done next to churches in the area. The Apostolic Faith Mission is one of the lucky churches where dumping is not practiced by residents in the surrounding areas.

Many from the congregation remarked that they hope and pray the residents would bring a stop to their bad habit of dumping by churches.
