ON a routine patrol in the Brackenhurst area, one of CPS Security’s tactical members heard the Brackendowns CPF call for assistance in Ilala Street, Mayberry Park, reporting five to six suspicious people seen in a veld.

CPS proceeded to the scene and on arrival met up with Brackendowns SAPS. The members from CPS Security, CPF and SAPS approached the men and noticed they were busy cutting up electrical cable. Once the men saw that they were being approached, they fled on foot, however one of the suspects was apprehended by Donovan du Toit from CPS Security.

As a result of the cable being cut, Brackenhurst, Brackendowns, Mayberry Park, Meyersdal, Alrode and Albertsdal were without power on the evening of January 21. Various tools were also recovered which were used to steal the cable.

The suspect was detained by Brackendowns SAPS and he was charged with these offences: cable theft; possession of stolen property and malicious damage to property to the value of R15 000.
