Police are still waiting for the ballistics report to confirm this, however, the suspect has already confirmed that the firearm was the one used in the shooting. The two suspects are linked to many crimes committed around Alberton including break-ins at the police barracks and the police station.

The suspects have already appeared in the Palmridge Magistrate Court and their cases were postponed.

According to Alberton SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Phora Nkuna, this breakthrough was expected as the police worked tirelessly to crack the case and to keep the area around the freeways safe at all times. More arrests are expected as the police are still looking for other suspects and the community is requested to stay alert at all times and to help the police with information.

A second firearm was recovered in a separate stop and search effort.
