FOR a family in Palmridge extension three, the New Year started on a very sad note. While the whole nation was celebrating the first day of the New Year, one family’s four-year-old daughter was being raped and murdered in a nearby shack.
It is alleged by Captain Vusi Mhlophe of the Eden Park SAPS, that the little girl went missing on the afternoon of January 1. The family members went searching for her as no one could give any account of her whereabouts.
“Her little body was later found in a nearby shack, cold, undressed and with a broken neck. The community immediately apprehended the owner of the shack. The 40-year-old shack owner suffered severe punishment under mob justice inflicted by the angry community. The police had to intervene and had the man taken to hospital,” said Mhlope.
The suspect appeared in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, January 4, and will remain in custody while police await the outcome of DNA and forensic testing results.
