MEC for Education in Gauteng, Mr Panyaza Lesufi, congratulated the province’s class of 2015 on their achievements. Gauteng came second nationally with 84,2 per cent.

Though the national pass rate dropped to 70,7 per cent in 2015 compare with 75,8 per cent in 2014, MEC Lesufi said they are proud of the overall achievement of the learners.

“We are proud to say out of 14 of the 15 districts in our province perform above 80 per cent. Sedibeng is the best district and Johannesburg Central performed poorly. However we need to praise the teachers for job well done,” he said.

Premier David Makhura shared the same sentiments with the MEC. “Without the teachers who worked hard none of this would have been possible. Thank you teachers because teaching is the foundation of all careers,” he said.
