Destitute receive food parcels

A total of 251 people including senior citizens, needy and unemployed people arrive to receive a cooked meal on Wednesdays in Eden Park.

On Wednesdays all roads lead to Moira’s Place in Hillman Street, Edenpark. A total of 251 people including senior citizens, needy and unemployed people arrive to receive a cooked meal and a food parcel to take home.

Moira Snyders established the feeding scheme, Women of Destiny, in 2009 and has since operated the weekly self-supporting scheme out of her own pocket.

“I am using my own funds to sustain this scheme which feeds people on Wednesdays. My aim is to change it in 2016 and make it a three day event which will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

“We deliver food parcels to the disabled who cannot make it to my house and register other families with the food bank based in Brakpan, who only helps people receiving less than R1 200 per month, to deliver food parcels to them. We also help with applications for ID books,” explained Snyders.

She further expressed her gratitude to the kind ladies who assist her on Wednesdays to prepare the food and the food parcels. She especially thanked Melana Spraak for her support and kind heartedness.
