Edenpark family in dire need

The big storm over Edenpark on November 16, left havoc and destruction along its path.

Roofs and brick wall fences were blown over or away. Leonard Fourie of Leon Street is one of the unfortunate residents whose roof was completely blown away and the entire ceiling collapsed.

“On that day my wife was at home with our two children when the roof blew off. The house was quickly filled with water with electrical wires hanging everywhere. Luckily a good neighbour switched off the main box. We moved out of the house that same day to stay with our son,” Fourie said. With all the rain over the past weeks since the storm, the house is slowly falling apart with plaster peeling off, build-in cupboards coming apart and the constantly wet floor showing signs of damage. The family is currently facing a financial uphill battle. The presently unemployed husband tried everywhere to obtain a loan but was unsuccessful.

“I even tried my company for a loan but it was declined. I had to resign to get my pension money which turned out to be a drop in the ocean. My family and I are really in need of help whether financially or material wise,” he said. It is alleged by Fourie that a council worker who took photographs of the house, reported that the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) could not assist the family. But they are not giving up hope. If there is anyone able to assist, please contact Fourie on 078 336 1061.

The RECORD is awaiting comment from EMM.
