Another successful Alberton Day

The Alberton Day festivities kicked off on a high note as patrons enjoyed great entertainment throughout Friday night and flooded through the gates on Saturday and Sunday for more local music acts, stalls, games, rides and a strongman competition. With things slowly building up from Friday morning, one can honestly say that by Saturday, things were in full swing. Friday saw the younger crowds dance till the early morning hours to the mixes of DJs Vin Deysel, Ray Squared, Jose Rocha, Mark Stent and of course, the talented twin duo, LCNVL. On Saturday things certainly livened up with boeremusiek around noon with the Boereorkes and Deirdre, as well as a strongman competition with athletes showing off their mettle and bulging muscle. People were awed by a show of sky divers, extreme bikes, laser shows, and of course favorite singers including Pieter Smit, Gerhard Steyn, Ray Dylan and Theuns Jordaan. The biggest star seemed to be Steve Hofmeyr, who certainly drew the largest crowd over the entire weekend. Sounds of Sweet Caroline reverberated throughout the stadium and Hofmeyr also gave a little taster of an upcoming country album he has planned. He sang “Die Stem” and classics like “Sarie Marais” and “Al die berge nog so blou” before he ended off with his hit song, “Pampoen”. On Sunday the fun continued with Hans Drommedaris, Bok van Blerk, Elizma Theron, Kurt Darren, Die Campbells and Heuning. These three days of celebration were certainly jam-packed with good entertainment and fun in the sun for all ensuring Alberton Day was a great success.
