Ekurhuleni launches women abuse campaign

The City of Ekurhuleni will on Wednesday, November 25 launch its 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children campaign at Bulithando Park in Kwa-Thema.

EKURHULENI – The campaign, which will run from November 25 until December 10, will be held under the theme ‘From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All’.

Residents from Kwa-Thema and surrounding areas will be educated about the importance of breaking the cycle of abuse, signs and dangers of gender based violence with a particular focus on the militarism relationship and the right to education.

The Speaker of Council, Patricia Kumalo, will facilitate a panel discussion by representatives from Sonke Gender Justice, People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA), South African Police Services and individuals representing abused women and children.

Activities of the day will also include a question and answer session and exhibitions by the various government and non-governmental organisations that deal with gender based-violence and violence against women and children.
